The Pearson Medical Assistant Program is a comprehensive training program that covers all aspects of medical assisting. The program is offered in both online and classroom formats, and includes both theoretical and practical components. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam.

The Benefits of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program

The Pearson Medical Assistant Program is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). CAAHEP is recognized by the Department of Education as a professional accrediting organization for medical assisting programs. The Pearson Medical Assistant Program has also been granted Applicant Status by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). The NAACLS is recognized by the Department of Education as a professional accrediting organization for clinical laboratory sciences.

The mission of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program is to provide quality education that prepares entry-level Medical assistants to function effectively in various healthcare settings. The program accomplishes this by offering a curriculum that combines classroom and laboratory instruction with clinical externship experience.

The program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to function as competent entry-level medical assistants. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to take the Certification Examination for Medical Assistants offered by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

The Curriculum of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program

The Pearson Medical Assistant Program curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform medical administrative and clinical duties. The program is divided into two parts: the classroom/laboratory portion and the externship.

Classroom and laboratory instruction covers topics such as Medical Terminology anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, patient confidentiality, call center operations, appointment scheduling, medical billing and coding, managing medical records insurance processing, and assisting with diagnostic testing. Students also receive training in clinical skills such as taking patient histories, recording vital signs, phlebotomy, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), administering injections, spirometry testing, handling medications, dressing changes, specimen collections (including urine and stool specimens), assist with minor office surgery procedures such as cryosurgery and applying casts.

The externship provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting under the supervision of a licensed healthcare professional. Students complete a minimum of 120 hours of on-the-job training in a variety of settings such as doctor’s offices, clinics, hospitals, or other healthcare facilities. Externship sites are carefully selected by Pearson to ensure that students have a positive experience and gain the hands-on training they need to be successful in their career.

The Admission Requirements of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program

To be eligible for admission into the Pearson Medical Assistant Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

-Be at least 18 years of age
-Have a high school diploma or equivalent
-Complete an accredited medical assistant program
-Pass a criminal background check

The Application Process for the Pearson Medical Assistant Program

To begin the process of becoming a Pearson Medical Assistant, you must complete an online application. The application will ask for your contact information, educational history, and any relevant work experience. You will also be asked to provide your transcripts and a copy of your current CPR certification. Once your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted for an interview.

The Externship Program of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program

Introduction
The Externship Program of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program is a process by which students are placed in medical facilities to gain on-the-job training and experience in the medical field. This program provides an opportunity for students to work side-by-side with experienced professionals in a medical setting, and to learn firsthand about the day-to-day operations of a medical office or clinic.

Through the Externship Program, students will develop important workplace skills such as communication, interpersonal skills, time management, and record keeping. In addition, they will have the opportunity to observe and participate in a variety of medical procedures. The Externship Program is an integral part of the Pearson Medical Assistant Program, and provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom learning into practice.

The Certification Exam for Pearson Medical Assistants

In order to become certified, medical assistants must pass an exam administered by either the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The AAMA offers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential, while the NHA offers the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential. To be eligible to take either exam, candidates must graduate from an accredited medical assisting program and submit an application to the respective certifying body.

The CMA exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions that cover five major content areas: administrative procedures, clinical procedures, infection control, medical terminology, and pharmacology. The exam is administered in two parts: a written portion and a skills portion. The written portion is composed of 100 multiple-choice questions that must be answered in two hours, while the skills portion consists of 10 tasks that must be completed in 30 minutes.

The RMA exam consists of 160 multiple-choice questions covering six major content areas: administrative medical procedures, anatomy and physiology, clinical medical procedures, infection control, medical law and ethics, and medical terminology. The exam is administered in two parts as well: a written portion and a clinical skills portion. The written portion is composed of 80 multiple-choice questions that must be answered in one hour and 45 minutes, while the clinical skills portion requires candidates to complete four tasks in 30 minutes.

The Continuing Education Opportunities for Pearson Medical Assistants

Pearson Medical Assistants (MAs) who successfully complete the program and pass the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam are well-prepared to begin their careers. However, many MAs choose to continue their education to increase their job possibilities and earnings potential. Here are some continuing education options for Pearson MAs.

MAs can become certified in specialty areas such as ophthalmology, podiatry, or orthopedics. MA programs typically offer courses in these areas, and some employers will pay for MAs to get certified.

MAs can also take coursework to prepare for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam. This credential is offered by the American Medical Technologists (AMT). To be eligible to take the RMA exam, candidates must have graduated from an accredited MA program, completed an externship, and have at least one year of full-time work experience as an MA. The RMA credential is generally not required for employment, but it may make MAs more competitive for certain jobs and may lead to higher earnings.

Another option for continuing education is to take courses to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree in medical assisting or a related field such as health administration or Nursing. A bachelor’s or master’s degree may be required for certain managerial or administrative positions in medical practices or other healthcare organizations.
