The benefits of becoming a medical assistant

There are many benefits to becoming a medical assistant With the aging population and the ever-increasing demand for healthcare, Medical assistants are in high demand. Medical Assistants perform a variety of duties to support the work of physicians and other medical professionals. They are an important part of the healthcare team.

Medical assistants are often the first point of contact for patients. They greeted patients, schedule appointments, and provide information about the practice. Medical assistants also take medical histories, measure vital signs, prepare patients for examination, and assist during examinations. They may also give injections, perform EKGs, remove stitches, dress wounds, and help with minor office surgery. In addition, medical assistants may schedule laboratory tests and x-rays, instruct patients on taking medications and special diets, and prepare insurance forms.

The job outlook for medical assistants is excellent. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment of medical assistants will grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2024. The growing elderly population will need more medical care, and as a result, more medical assistants will be needed to perform routine administrative and clinical duties in hospitals, physicians’ offices, and other healthcare facilities.

Job outlook and career opportunities

The medical assisting profession is expected to grow much faster than average in coming years. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of medical assistants will increase by 29 percent from 2016 to 2026, adding about 183,900 new jobs.

A number of factors are expected to contribute to this rapid growth. An aging population will require more diagnostic testing and treatment, especially as baby boomers begin to age into their Medicare-eligible years. In addition, as physicians increasingly enter into group practices and healthcare facilities expand their services, the demand for medical assistants should continue to increase.
