Program Details

Ochsner’s Medical Assistant Program is a one-year certificate program that will prepare you for a career as a medical assistant. The program is offered at our main campus in New Orleans and our satellite campus in Baton Rouge.

The curriculum for the medical assistant program includes classroom, laboratory and clinical experiences. Classroom instruction covers topics such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic testing, pharmacology, patient relations and medical office procedures. Laboratory experiences provide students with the opportunity to practice skills such as injections, vital signs, blood collection procedures and EKG’s. Clinical experiences are completed in various outpatient settings under the supervision of a licensed physician or registered nurse.

Eligibility & Admission Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply to the Ochsner Medical Assistant diploma program, applicants must:
-Be at least 18 years of age
-Have a high school diploma or equivalent
-Complete an application and submit all required documentation
-Interview with the program director
-Complete a pre-admission physical examination and immunizations
-Submit evidence of insurance
-Take and pass a criminal background check and drug screen
