Introduction to the NCCT Test

The National Certified Medical assistants (NCMA) certification is offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). In order to sit for the NCMA exam, candidates must first complete a medical assisting program that is accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). Candidates must also have graduated within the past five years or have worked full-time as a medical assistant for at least five years.

The NCMA exam is a four-hour, computer-based test that consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. The questions cover a variety of topics, including medical knowledge, administrative skills, and clinical procedures. Candidates are given two hours to complete the medical knowledge section and two hours to complete the administrative and clinical skills sections.

What is the NCCT Test?

The National Certification Examination for Medical Assistants is a computer-based test that is administered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT). The NCCT test is used to certify that medical assistants have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their job duties.

The NCCT test is made up of two parts: a written examination and a clinical skills examination. The written examination consists of multiple-choice questions that cover topics such as Medical Terminology anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, and sterilization procedures. The clinical skills examination tests a medical assistant’s ability to perform hands-on tasks such as measuring a patient’s blood pressure and taking a patient’s medical history.

The NCCT Test Format

The National Certified medical assistant (NCMA) exam is a computer-based test (CBT) that consists of 180 multiple-choice questions. The examination is divided into three main content areas: general (clinical) knowledge, administrative knowledge, and clinical procedures. Candidates are given three hours to complete the exam.

160 of the180 questions on the NCMA exam are scored; 20 are unscored/pretest questions used for statistical purposes only and do not count towards your final score. Of the scored questions, 40 are general (clinical) knowledge, 80 are administrative knowledge, and 60 are clinical procedures.

You will be asked to select the ONE best answer to each question; there is only ONE correct answer for each question. If you select more than one answer or no answer at all, that question will be counted as incorrect.

The NCCT Test Sections

The National Certification Exam for Medical Assistants (NCCT) is a computer-based test consisting of four sections: medical terminology, administrative skills, clinical skills, and general knowledge. The first three sections have 35 questions each, and the fourth section has 50 questions. There is no time limit for the exam, but you must complete all four sections within one testing session.

The medical terminology section tests your knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations. The administrative skills section covers topics such as appointment scheduling, insurance billing, and patient records. The clinical skills section assesses your ability to perform basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs and administering injections. The general knowledge section covers a variety of topics including OSHA regulations, HIPAA compliance, and basic human anatomy.

You must achieve a score of 70% or higher on each section in order to pass the exam. If you do not pass one or more sections, you may retake that section orsections within one year of your initial testing date.

The NCCT Test Preparation

The NCCT Test Contact Information

The National Healthcareer Association (NHA) offers the National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) credential. To earn this credential, candidates must successfully complete the NCMA Certification Exam. The NCCT Test is a computer-based examination offered by the NHA.

The NCCT Test contains 140 questions, of which 120 are scored. The remaining 20 questions do not affect the candidate’s score but are used for future test development. Candidates have 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete the examination.

To register for the NCMA Certification Exam, candidates must create an account on the NHA website. Registration is available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Candidates can also register by phone, fax, or mail.

The NCCT Test Glossary
