The Cleveland Institute of Dental and Medical Assistants Who We Are
The Cleveland Institute of Dental and medical assistants (CIDMA) is a non-profit organization that trains and certifies individuals to work as dental and medical assistants in the state of Ohio. We are committed to providing our students with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in their careers, and we are proud to offer our programs at an affordable price.
CIDMA was founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 2006, and we have since expanded to include programs in Toledo and Columbus. We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of our students, including a one-year certificate program, a two-year associate’s degree program, and a four-year bachelor’s degree program. We also offer a one-year internship program for those who wish to gain experience working in a dental or medical office before completing their education.
We are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and the Ohio State Board of Dentistry, and our programs are approved by the Ohio Board of Regents. CIDMA is a member of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
The Cleveland Institute of Dental and Medical Assistants: Our History
The Cleveland Institute of Dental and Medical Assistants was founded in 1965 by Dr. George and Alice Ligas. Dr. Ligas had been a dentist in Cleveland for many years, and he saw a need for dental assistants who were properly trained and certified. He and his wife started the institute with just a few students, but it quickly grew into one of the most respected dental assistant schools in the country.
Today, the Cleveland Institute of Dental and Medical Assistants is still owned and operated by the Ligas family. We offer a wide range of dental assistant programs, from certification to associate’s degree, and our faculty is made up of experienced dental professionals who are dedicated to helping our students succeed.

What is the difference between a dental and medical assistant?
The main difference between dental assistants and medical assistants is the type of healthcare facility they work in. Dental assistants work exclusively in dental offices, while medical assistants may work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, and physician offices. Both dental and medical assistants perform a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to support the work of dentists and physicians.
What are the admission requirements for the Cleveland Institute of Dental and Medical Assistants?
In order to be considered for admission to our programs, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must also take an entrance exam and complete an interview with a member of our admissions team. Once you have been accepted into the program, you will be required to complete a criminal background check.
How long does it take to complete one of your programs?
Our programs can be completed in as little as 9 months for full-time students. Part-time students may take up to 18 months to complete their studies.
