Waking up and getting dressed
The first thing you should do when you wake up is to make sure you are feeling well. If you have a cold or the flu, it is best to stay home and rest. If you are feeling well, the next thing on the checklist is to get dressed. Choose comfortable clothes that you can move around in easily. You will also want to choose clothes that are appropriate for the type of work you will be doing.
Checking your medical supplies
As a medical assistant it is your responsibility to make sure that all of the medical supplies in your office are accounted for and fully stocked. This can be a daunting task, but luckily we have a handy checklist for you to follow. Use this checklist every day to ensure that you have everything you need to provide quality care for your patients.
– Check the supply closet for any expired or damaged supplies. Toss anything that is no longer usable and replace it with new supplies.
– Make sure that all of the first aid supplies are accounted for and fully stocked. This includes bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, etc.
– Check to see if there are any empty prescription bottles in the office. If so, make a note of which medications need to be refilled.
– Check expiration dates on all medical supplies and medications. Discard anything that is expired and replace it with fresh supplies.
– Make sure that all of the equipment in the office is in good working condition. This includes blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, otoscopes, etc.
– If you use electronic medical records check to see if there are any updates or system maintenance that needs to be performed.
– Clean and organize the medical supply closet so that everything is easy to find and within reach.
– Perform a general walkthrough of the office to make sure that everything is in its proper place and that there is no clutter anywhere.
Breakfast and taking your medications
As a medical assistant you have a lot of responsibilities. One of your most important responsibilities is taking care of yourself. If you’re not feeling well, you can’t take care of your patients. That’s why it’s important to have a healthy breakfast and to take your medications every day.
Here’s a checklist to help you make sure you’re taking care of yourself:
-Eat a healthy breakfast: Start your day off right with a nutritious breakfast. Include protein, whole grains, and fruits or vegetables.
-Take your medications: Be sure to take all of your prescribed medications, including any over-the-counter drugs that your doctor has recommended.
-Drink plenty of fluids: Drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids every day to stay hydrated.
-Exercise: Getting some exercise every day will help you stay healthy and fit.
Preparing for your patients
As a medical assistant you will have many responsibilities. Providing quality patient care is your top priority. You will need to be organized and efficient in order to provide the best care possible.
One way to stay organized is to create a daily checklist. This can help you keep track of your tasks and make sure that you are prepared for each patient.
Some items that you may want to include on your daily checklist are:

Seeing your patients
As a medical assistant, you will be responsible for many different tasks throughout the day. One of your primary responsibilities will be seeing patients. When you are seeing a patient, it is important to remember to do the following:
-Greet the patient warmly and introduce yourself
-Make sure you have all of the patient’s information and paperwork
-Make small talk and put the patient at ease
-Examine the patient and take their vital signs
-Ask the patient about their symptoms and concerns
-Explain the examination process and what you are doing
-Give the patient instructions for follow-up care
-Thank the patient for their time
Documenting your patients’ visits
As a medical assistant, you will be responsible for documenting your patients’ visits. This will include taking down information such as the reason for the visit, the patient’s vital signs, and anything else that the doctor needs to know. You will also be responsible for keeping track of any medications that the patient is taking.
Checking in with your supervisor
Every medical assistant has different roles and responsibilities, but one thing you will likely have in common with others in your field is the need to check in with your supervisor at the beginning of each day. This daily check-in gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about assignments for the day, go over any upcoming changes or events, and get clarification on anything that may be unclear. It also allows your supervisor to give you feedback on your work and let you know if there are any areas where they feel you could improve.

Taking a lunch break
As a medical assistant, it’s important to take a lunch break. This gives you time to refuel and recharge so you can be at your best for the rest of the day. Here’s a checklist of things to do during your lunch break:
-Eat a healthy lunch. This will help you stay focused and have energy for the rest of the day.
-Get some exercise. A quick walk or some light stretching can do wonders for your energy levels.
-Take breaks during your shift. If you can, step away from your work station for a few minutes every few hours. This will help you avoid burnout.
-Limit screen time. Try to avoid spending too much time on your phone or computer during your break. Instead, use this time to relax and unwind.
Stocking supplies and cleaning up

Going home

-Make sure all patient files are up to date and put away.
-Double check that the appointment schedule for the next day is correct and posted.
-Ensure that all lab results and test results have been filed away.
-Make sure that all instruments are properly sanitized and stored away.
-Restock any supplies that have been used during the day.
-Ensure that all computers are turned off and locked.
-Turn off all lights in the office.
-Make sure the front door is locked.
