The program was ranked No. 4 in the nation by Health Career Times, a leading source of information for health care careers.

“This is a great honor for our program and a testament to the quality of our students and faculty,” said Mona Nazaire, VCC’s Medical Assisting Program director. “Our students work hard to become competent medical professionals, and this recognition is a validation of their efforts.”

The ranking is based on several factors, including student satisfaction, job placement rates, and pass rates on national certification exams.

VCC’s Medical Assisting Program has been nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs since 2009.

In 2019, the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) released their outcomes data for medical assisting programs across North America, and VCC’s program was in the top 10% for pass rates on the Certified medical assistant (CMA) Certification Exam.

In 2020, Medical Assisting Programs was ranked #11 in Canada by HealthCare Colleges. This is the second year in a row that VCC has been ranked in the Top 15, and we are the only program in BC to make the list.

The Medical Assisting program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work as Medical assistants in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and doctor’s offices. Students in the program will learn how to perform administrative and clerical duties, as well as medical tasks such as taking vital signs and assisting with examinations.

The Medical Assisting program at Vancouver Community College is nationally recognized and highly sought after by students. The two-year diploma is the only one of its kind in British Columbia and provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work as Medical Assistants in a variety of settings.

The program is designed to prepare students for a career in the medical field, with courses that cover topics such as anatomy, physiology, Medical Terminology pharmacology, and patient care. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to write the national certification exam to become a Certified medical assistant (CMA).

VCC’s Medical Assisting Program is highly competitive, with an average of 250 applicants annually vying for just 40 spots in the program. As such, admission into the program is based on both academic achievement and personal suitability.

To be eligible for admission into VCC’s Medical Assisting Program, applicants must have completed high school (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 70%. In addition, all applicants are required to complete an entrance exam prior to being considered for admission.
