Robredo Outlines Medical Assistance Requirements
Leni Robredo, the Vice President of the Philippines, has recently outlined what she believes to be the requirements for medical assistance in the Philippines. In a Facebook post, she wrote that “All Filipinos deserve quality and affordable healthcare. No one should be left behind.”
Robredo went on to list three requirements for medical assistance in the Philippines: 1) that medical assistance should be Universal health care (UHC); 2) that there should be free primary care for all Filipinos; and 3) that there should be free hospitalization for indigent patients. She also wrote that “we need to put our money where our mouth is” and called on the government to invest more in healthcare.
Robredo’s post comes at a time when the Philippines is facing a number of challenges with regards to healthcare. The country has one of the highest out-of-pocket health expenditures in Southeast Asia, and approximately 13 million Filipinos are unable to access essential health services due to high costs. In addition, the Philippine health system is plagued by corruption, which has led to substandard care and long wait times for treatment.
Despite these challenges, Robredo remains optimistic about the future of healthcare in the Philippines. She ended her Facebook post by writing that “we can do this” and calling on all Filipinos to “demand better quality healthcare for all.”
