What are the requirements for Medical Assistance from the DSWD?
In order to qualify for Medical Assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), you must be a Filipino citizen and a resident of the Philippines. You must also be indigent, meaning that you lack the financial means to pay for your own medical care.
The DSWD will consider your family’s total income and assets, as well as your family size, in order to determine whether you are eligible for assistance. If you are eligible, the DSWD will provide you with a voucher that can be used to cover some or all of the cost of your medical treatment.
How to apply for Medical assistance from the DSWD?
In order to apply for Medical Assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), you will need to submit the following documents:

What are the covered medical expenses?
The covered medical expenses are the reasonable and necessary costs incurred for the prevention and alleviation of an illness, injury or disability, including but not limited to:
-Anesthesia
-Blood transfusion
-Dental services
-Laboratory and diagnostic procedures
-Inpatient services at a hospital or accredited facility
-Medicines prescribed by a licensed physician
-Outpatient services
-Professional fees of licensed health care providers such as doctors, nurses, midwives, and nutritionists/dietitians
-Rehabilitation services
-Surgery
How much financial assistance is available?
According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), medical assistance is available for those who are in need of financial assistance for medical treatment. There is no specific amount that is available, as it will depend on the individual’s need.
How is the assistance paid out?
There are three ways in which the medical assistance can be paid out, and these are:
-A direct payment to the medical service provider
-A reimbursement to the family or individual
-A voucher system wherein the individual is given a certain amount which can be used to purchase medicines from an accredited drug store
What is the process for appeals?
The process for appeals is as follows:
1. The applicant may file a written notice of appeal with the Department within 30 days from receipt of the adverse decision.
2. The notice of appeal must be verified by the applicant and must state the grounds for appeal.
3. The Department will issue a decision on the appeal within 60 days from receipt of the notice of appeal.
