The curriculum of CSUSM’s Medical Assistant Program

The curriculum of our Medical Assistant Program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties required of a medical assistant. The program is divided into two parts: the didactic phase and the clinical phase.

The didactic phase consists of classroom and laboratory instruction in the various medical assisting skills. Students will learn about medical ethics, patient confidentiality, medical office procedures, insurance billing and coding, and medical terminology. They will also be introduced to the basics of anatomy and physiology, as well as pharmacology.

The clinical phase of the program provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting. Students will complete externships at local medical facilities, where they will work under the supervision of licensed medical professionals.

The admissions requirements for CSUSM’s Medical Assistant Program

In order to be admitted into CSUSM’s Medical Assistant Program, applicants must first complete a medical assistant program application and submit it to the school. Along with the application, transcripts and a letter of recommendation from a medical professional are also required.

How to apply to CSUSM’s Medical Assistant Program

There are a few steps you will need to take in order to apply to CSUSM’s Medical Assistant program.

First, you will need to submit an online application. This can be found on the CSUSM website. Click on the “Admissions” tab and then select “Apply Now.”

Next, you will need to send in your transcripts. Unofficial transcripts can be submitted electronically through the online application system. Official transcripts must be sent directly from your school’s Registrar’s Office to:

In addition to transcripts, you will also need to submit a copy of your immunization record and a copy of your CPR certification. These can be submitted electronically through the online application system or mailed directly to the Admissions and Records office at the address above.

Once your application is complete and all required materials have been received, it will be reviewed by the Medical Assistant Program faculty. If you are found to meet the eligibility requirements, you will be invited to interview with the faculty. Following the interview, a decision will be made regarding admission into the program.

The cost of attendance for CSUSM’s Medical Assistant Program

According to the CSUSM website, the cost of attendance for their Medical Assistant Program is $5,040 for residents of California and $15,840 for non-residents. This cost includes tuition, books and supplies, and other fees.
