In order to be eligible for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Medical Assistance Services, you must meet certain financial and non-financial criteria.

Financial Criteria:
In order to be eligible for medical assistance, your income must not exceed the program’s limit, which is currently set at 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). In addition, your countable assets must not exceed $2,000 if you are an individual or $3,000 if you are a married couple.

Non-Financial Criteria:
In order to be eligible for medical assistance, you must also be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia and a U.S. citizen or legal alien. If you are not a U.S. citizen or legal alien, you may still be eligible if you meet certain residency requirements.
