Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically educated to work in outpatient facilities such as medical offices and clinics. They perform both clinical and administrative duties and often work side by side with physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.

The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the size and location of the practice and the physician’s specialty. In small practices, medical assistants generally do both clinical and administrative tasks, while in larger practices they may specialize in either clinical or administrative duties.
